Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Moniliophthora roreri Causal Agent of Frosty Pod Rot of Cocoa Tree in Tabasco, Mexico

Abstract: Cocoa farming is affected by many fungal diseases and frosty pod rot is one of the biggest constraints of cocoa cultivation in Latin America cocoa growing countries. Three Moniliophthora roreri strains have been isolated from frosty pod rot diseased cocoa tree (Theobroma cacao) in Tabasco, Mexico. The strains were identified by morphological analysis and by sequencing the internal transcribed spacers 1 and 2. The microscopic and macroscopic morphological characteristics observed are similar to those reported in the literature for those species. The phylogenetic analysis of the M. roreri sequences formed three groups supported by high bootstrap values and the sequences of the isolates clustered close to the sequences of strains previously isolated from T. cacao in Peru and Mexico. The alignment of ITS1-5.8s-ITS2 sequences of M. roreri strains revealed for ITS1 and ITS2 four regions with interspecies divergence (80, 84-91, 110 and 130) and six (395, 444, 459, 539, 570 and 585), respectively. In conclusion, the identification of M. roreri cocoa strains by ITSs sequences confirmed the identification by morphological methods and provides information on the variability in comparison with M. roreri strains of South and Central America. Besides this, the identification could be important for developing strategies for its prevention and control.
El concepto de personalidad multicultural: una perspectiva de origen etnico mestizo

Abstract: El Movimiento de los Derechos Civiles de los Mestizos (de origen étnico mixto) en los Estados Unidos se puede dividir en cinco fases: pre-Derechos, Civiles, Derechos Civiles, Educación Bilingüe-Multicultural, Conservatismo Político, y el período presente, un Ataque a los Derechos Civiles. La carrera investigativa del autor ha sido influenciada por las diferentes fases del Movímiento, y su trabajo en el concepto de la personalidad multicultural ha reflejado estrechamente sus varias fases. El Movimiento no sólo proveyó modelos multiculturales tales como César Chavez, Malcolm X, Dolores Huerta, Martin Luther King Jr., y Rosa Park, sino que también ayudó a liberar al autor de los paradigmas racista, sexista, y de superioridad cultural y genética de las ciencias sociales. El autor recuenta el desarrollo del concepto de la personalidad multicultural y también describe los instrumentos que se dise aron para evaluar procesos de la personalidad multicultural. Considerando la tendencia de la sociedad actual contra la acción afirmativa, el autor mira al futuro con la esperanza de que se volverá a encender la llama de los Derechos Civiles de manera que el multiculturalismo pueda ayudar a preservar el mundo.
Green's functions for Sturm-Liouville problems on directed tree graphs

Abstract: Let $\Gamma$ be geometric tree graph with $m$ edges and consider the second order Sturm-Liouville operator $\L[u]=(-pu')'+qu$ acting on functions that are continuous on all of $\Gamma$, and twice continuously differentiable in the interior of each edge. The functions $p$ and $q$ are assumed uniformly continuous on each edge, and $p$ strictly positive on $\Gamma$. The problem is to find a solution $f:\Gamma \to \R$ to the problem $\L[f] = h$ with $2m$ additional conditions at the nodes of $\Gamma$. These node conditions include continuity at internal nodes, and jump conditions on the derivatives of $f$ with respect to a positive measure $\rho$. Node conditions are given in the form of linear functionals $\l_1,...,\l_{2m}$ acting on the space of admissible functions. A novel formula is given for the Green's function $G:\Gamma\times \Gamma \to \R$ associated to this problem. Namely, the solution to the semi-homogenous problem $\L[f] = h$, $\l_i[f] =0$ for $i=1,...,2m$ is given by $f(x) = \int_\Gamma G(x,y) h(y) \ud \rho$.
Study of the forward Dirichlet boundary value problem for the two-dimensional Electrical Impedance Equation

Abstract: Using a conjecture that allows to approach separable-variables conductivity functions, the elements of the Modern Pseudoanalytic Function Theory are used, for the first time, to numerically solve the Dirichlet boundary value problem of the two-dimensional Electrical Impedance Equation, when the conductivity function arises from geometrical figures, located within bounded domains.
Population persistence under advection-diffusion in river networks

Abstract: An integro-differential equation on a tree graph is used to model the evolution and spatial distribution of a population of organisms in a river network. Individual organisms become mobile at a constant rate, and disperse according to an advection-diffusion process with coefficients that are constant on the edges of the graph. Appropriate boundary conditions are imposed at the outlet and upstream nodes of the river network. The local rates of population growth/decay and that by which the organisms become mobile, are assumed constant in time and space. Imminent extinction of the population is understood as the situation whereby the zero solution to the integro-differential equation is stable. Lower and upper bounds for the eigenvalues of the dispersion operator, and related Sturm-Liouville problems are found, and therefore sufficient conditions for imminent extinction are given in terms of the physical variables of the problem.

Preliminary results of a 3D

Abstract: The treatment of extensive bone loss and massive acetabular defects can be compounded by several challenges and pitfalls. The survivorship following acetabular revision with extensive bone loss is still unsatisfactory. The goal of the present study was to analyse the outcomes of 3D-printed patient-specific acetabular components in the management of extensive acetabular defects and combined pelvic discontinuity (PD). 9 patients underwent revision THA using 3D-printed custom acetabular components to reconstruct extensive acetabular defects. The Paprosky classifications were determined in all patients. The primary outcome measure was the implant-associated failure rate. 1 out of 9 patients suffered an implant-associated complication (11%). The overall implant-associated survival rate was 89%. The overall complication rate was 56%. The patient-specific acetabular component technique shows promise for the treatment of patients with severe acetabular defects in revision THA. Further research aimed at reducing costs and improving the complication rate are warranted
